Good, Bad and Ugly kits from the past – Bolton Wanderers

“Super” John McGinlay in the 1992/93 home shirt

Good – Home shirt 1992/93 season
This shirt was plain and very basic for the time. In the early 90’s many teams had shirts with jazzy patterns and awful designs, but Bolton didn’t follow suit with their home shirt.
A blue and red collar and blue cuffs were the only colour on the shirt with a large crest in the middle of the chest and Reebok printed across the middle of the shirt.
Bolton had a great season in this shirt as they finished second to gain promotion from the Second Division. They also reached the Fifth Round of the FA Cup, beating holders Liverpool in a replay at Anfield after holding them at home. A good shirt for a great season!

Bad – Away shirt 2013/14
The shirt colour was described as ‘infrared’ and that sort of colour has no place in football!
Manufactured by Adidas, the shirt had dark blue on the sleeves and on the v-neck. Adidas’s traditional three stripes ran down the sleeves.
The whole kit was the same colour and looked like the high-vis jackets that stewards would wear in the ground, not something that that the players would run around in!

Bolton’s 2018/19 away shirt

Ugly – Away shirt 2018/19
This black, grey and pink away shirt from last season was manufactured by Macron and sponsored by Betfred.
The reason that I chose this to be the ‘Ugly’ shirt is because of the grey vertical streaks running down front of the shirt. If they weren’t included on the shirt and it was just a plain black and pink shirt then in my opinion, it would look so much better.
