Good, Bad and Ugly its from the past – Sheffield Wednesday

Guy Whittingham sporting the 1993 – 95 home shirt

Good – home shirt 1993 – 95
I have always liked this shirt. According to my records, I saw Wednesday wear this shirt in a match against Arsenal, but I don’t remember anything of the match!
The shirt was smart and had two types of stripes on it, thick vertical stripes on the body of the shirt and thin stripes on the sleeve. A very nice shirt.

Siggi Jonsson in the 1988/89 shirt. I can’t work out what’s worse, his shirt or haircut!

Bad – home shirt 1987 – 89
Wednesday wore this shirt in both the 1987/88 and 1988/89 season, the only difference being that the sponsorship changed from Finlux TV to VT Plastics.
The 1980’s was the first decade where shirt designs were being experimented with as sports brands had more license to change the way shirts looked. Sadly for Wednesday fans, Umbro decided to try narrow pinstripes for a couple of years, a design that Wednesday wouldn’t return to until 2016.

Ugly – away shirt 1992 – 94
This hideous yellow and black design was worn during Wednesday’s runs to both the FA Cup and Coca Cola Cup Finals. It is yet another horrible shirt that a team wore when they did well on the pitch!
