A blog about all things football

On This Day – 17th January

83,620 fans crammed into Manchester City’s Maine Road ground on this day back in 1948 to watch Manchester United play Arsenal in a 1-1 draw.

A large amount of damage had been made to United’s Old Trafford home during the Second World War and they had to play their home games at neighbouring Manchester City’s home ground.

This particular attendance was a Football League record. Manchester United returned home to Old Trafford a year later.
