Record Breakers No.3 – Jamie Vardy’s Premier League goalscoring record

The record breaking goal against Manchester United

Jamie Vardy is one of those players that you don’t see very often at all nowadays. He was playing non-league football up until 2012 when Leicester City, who were then in the Championship came and signed him for £1 million.

Vardy struggled to find the back of the net in his first season at Leicester, managing just five goals in 29 matches. The following season Leicester were promoted as champions and he performed better, scoring sixteen league goals.
Leicester struggled in 2014/15, their first season back in the top flight since 2004, and only survived relegation on the final day of the season. Vardy only managed five league goals, playing in all but four of the league games.
It was at the end of the 2014/15 season that the Leicester City striker made his England debut, in a friendly away to the Republic of Ireland.

2015/16 was a football fairytale as Leicester shocked the footballing world by winning the Premier League title. They were 5,000/1 at the start of the campaign but under the guidance of Italian manager Claudio Ranieri, The Foxes won the title by ten points! It was also the season that Jamie Vardy broke the Premier League goalscoring record by scoring in eleven successive matches.

The first of Vardy’s record came in a 1-1 draw away to Bournemouth and he followed this up with goals against Aston Villa, Stoke City, Arsenal, Norwich City, Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion, Watford and Newcastle United before breaking the record at home to Manchester United.

The record came to an end after Vardy failed to find the back of the net in the next game, a 3-0 win at Swansea City. His record remains to this day.
