On this Day – 29th March

It was on this day in 1890 that the first hat-trick was scored in an FA Cup Final.
Billy Townley grabbed three goals for Blackburn Rovers in a 6-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.
This was the 20th Final to be played at the Kennington Oval. The Oval is now a cricket venue but rugby, hockey and Aussie Rules have also been played there.
Two further Finals were played at the Oval before moving on to various venues before Wembley became the permanent venue in 1923.
