Good, Bad and Ugly kits from the past – Preston North End

The Preston North End team of the 1883/84 season, Preston’s second ever season

Good – home shirt 1882 – 84
This was the first ever Preston North End shirt. They wore it for the first three years before reverting to a red and white half and half shirt.
The thin horizontal stripes were navy blue, obviously the blue wouldn’t show on black and white photos!

Bad – home shirt 1992/93
I’m not keen on this design. The yellow and blue wavy lines on the right shoulder and bottom left of the shirt looked very odd.
It was only worn for the one season in 1992/93 when Preston North End played in Division Two. This was the first season that it was called that after the Premier League came into existence and the league had been called the Third Division the season before.

Ugly – away shirt 1993/94
Another Ugly design from the early-mid 90’s! This design was from Matchwinner who designed and manufactured many wild (and ugly!) shirts at the time.
This shirt is made up of white, blue and yellow which are the usual colours for Preston’s home shirt. However, it is yellow and blue are used as the dominant colour instead.
