A blog about all things football

On This Day – 20th January

AC Milan and Udinese were playing on this day in 1985 when Milan’s defender Sergio Battistini got injured. He was substituted by a young 16 year old defender who would become a Milan and Italy legend, who would win 126 caps for Italy and play for AC Milan for his entire playing career.
The substitute was a certain Paulo Maldini.

Paulo was following in the footsteps of his father Cesare, who played for the Rossoneri for 12 years. Paulo’s son Christian was on the youth books of AC to keep the Maldini dynasty going!

Paulo Maldini would go on and have a fantastic career and at the end of his playing days, AC Milan retired his number 3 shirt.
