Good, Bad and Ugly kits from the past – Bristol Rovers

Stuart Campbell celebrates the
Play Off Final win in 2007

Good – home shirt 2006/07
This shirt came in a lighter shade of blue in this promotion-winning campaign and in my opinion, the shirt looks lovely.
Rovers first wore blue and white quarters on their home shirt in 1931 apart from between 1962 and 1973. In that time they tried a variety of different designs of blue and white vertical stripes or plain blue shirts.
Reverting back to the blue and white quarters in the 1973/74 season, this is my favourite from their past shirts.

Rovers’ away shirt from the 93/94 season

Bad – away shirt 1993/94
There’s not a lot to be said about this shirt. The 90’s seemed to be the decade of trying out new patterns and designs of shirts and this is definitely one of the strangest designs of Rovers’ history.
Incidentally, Lincoln City had the exact same shirt apart from the obvious differences of club badges and sponsors.

The 96/97 home shirt

Ugly – home shirt 1996/97
This design was made by sportswear brand CICA and is made up of two different patterns that merged together.
The shirt had blue and white vertical stripes over blue and white quarters and one sleeve was different from the other. Looking it it reminds me of a barcode!
It really was an awful design and it only lasted one season before CICA reverted back to the simple plain four blue and white quarters.
