Good, Bad and Ugly kits from the past – Accrington Stanley

Today’s featured team is Accrington Stanley. As they have only been in the Football League since 2006, it has been difficult (but not impossible!) to find pictures of some of their older shirts.
Keep reading for my opinions on their Good, Bad and Ugly kits from their past.

Accrington’s home shirt for the
2018/19 season

The Good – 2018/19 Home shirt
This home shirt made by Adidas was a simplistic design but it looked great. This was the home shirt that Accrington wore when they made their first appearance in League One in their history.

Stanley’s away shirt from the 1997/98 season

The Bad – 1997/98 Away shirt
This particularly awful away shirt was worn in the 1997/98 season. Predominantly white with a purple and yellow trim, it was the alternative shirt worn when Accrington’s opponents wore red. The home version of the shirt was red with white sleeves.
Stanley finished 20th in the Northern Premier League in the 1997/98 season, narrowly avoiding relegation by 8 points.

Accrington’s ugly away shirt worn in the 2016/17 season

The Ugly – Away shirt 2016/17 season
It was a tough call to find an ugly shirt from the Accrington Stanley back catalogue but I have opted for the away shirt from the 2016/17 season.
Yellow and blue vertical stripes just look horrible in my opinion and I have seen a few teams wearing that combination and it just doesn’t work!

As you can see from the picture above, Accrington wore the shirt when playing West Ham United in the League Cup. It was a heartbreaking night for Stanley as they lost the game 1-0, conceding in the 96th minute.
