Ryan Giggs on his debut for Manchester United in February 1991

Ryan Giggs signed his professional contract at Manchester United on his 17th birthday on this day in 1990.
Giggs was part of the Manchester United youth team at the time, but Alex Ferguson was suitably impressed and Giggs signed a five-year contract!

The Welshman would go on and have a hugely successful career at Manchester United, the only club that he played for in his 24 year career. I will be writing a full article on his records in the ‘Record Breakers’ series.

In his time at Old Trafford, Giggs would win 13 Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, two Champions Leagues, eight Charity Shields, a UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

In April 2014, Giggs took charge of the United first team as a player-manager after David Moyes was sacked. He is now the Welsh manager, having taken over in 2018 after winning 64 caps for his country during his playing career.
